What is the YesWeCode Hackathon?
The YesWeCode Hackathon is a month-long creative tech challenge where kids and youth across Canada use their imagination, coding skills, and problem-solving abilities to build exciting projects.
It’s free, fun, and open to ages 8–15.
Each year, hundreds of young creators join us to dream big, build confidently, and show the world what they can do with technology.
2026 Theme: AI—Superhero or Supervillain?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere today — but is it here to help us, or cause trouble?
This year, participants will explore AI in a fun and creative way by imagining it as a hero, a villain, or something completely different!
Participants can share their ideas for a secure and innovative digital future in one of the following ways:
- Draw or Paint a Vision: Participants can create art that imagines AI as a superhero, a supervillain, or something in between. How might AI save the world? How could it cause harm? This option allows students to use their creativity to explore the future of AI through storytelling and visual imagination.
Deadline: January 31, 2026
- Create a Project in Scratch: Participants can use Scratch to build an interactive project that explores the theme AI—Superhero or Supervillain? It could show an AI character making choices, solving challenges, or creating chaos. This option encourages creativity and simple coding to express big ideas about AI.
Deadline: January 31, 2026
- Code on Any Platform: Participants can use any coding platform—such as Code.org, Trinket, or Glitch—to design a game, tool, animation, or story about the role of AI as either a hero or a villain. They can imagine how AI might protect people, help communities, or how misused AI could cause problems.
